Summer Reads

Jessica Stanford from Mrs. Stanford's Class is having a Summer Reads Linky.

I have belonged to professional book clubs at a couple of schools where I've taught. The teachers in the book clubs would collectively decide on books to read. We would meet at the school site and discuss the books and talk about how we could apply theories and practices to our particular grade levels and students.

A couple that come to mind:

Mosaic of Thought: Teaching Comprehension in a Reader's Workshop by Ellin Oliver Keene and Susan Zimmerman

and

Teaching with the brain in mind by Eric Jensen.

I guess you could call the following books Summer Rereading. These are books I reread and review each summer to plan for the beginning weeks of the school year when learning routines and procedures is critical to an effective learning environment.

I would love to hear about your summer reading favorites.

I have awarded you with the "One Lovely Blog Award". Visit my blog to find out more.

  5. Your book clubs sound much more productive than ours were--we usually met at a restaurant after work and the discussion often strayed pretty far from the book *innocent whistle* :).

  7. Hi Mona!
I'm following your TpT store and blog! The Harry Wong book is a really good one! It helped me tremendously when I first started teaching and I still use "Give Me Five". My summer reading is Debbie Diller's math stations book. I am really looking forward to implementing them next year!
    Your blog is adorable!

    1. Hi Linda!
I'm also reading Debbie Diller's Math Stations book this summer. I have her literacy book and keep hearing about her math stations. I plan on implementing them this coming year, too. We will have to compare notes!
